The roots of failure in the “War on terror”

July 24th, 2013 · No Comments

– Robert Light The guilty, the responsible and the innocent It is hard to believe but 4 decades ago, my 7th grade English teacher may have put her finger on the roots to why we are having such difficulties in winning the “war on terror”.  She kept on telling us that “words are important”…that words […]

…and the band drones on.

March 10th, 2013 · No Comments

– Robert Light Let’s get something straight… the argument should have absolutely nothing to do with drones.   I’m quite surprised that nobody seems to be making this point.  Is it that drones bring some kind of reminiscence of “The Terminator” to life?   What on earth is the difference between a person telling a pilot […]

Democracy is not a “social condiment”

December 13th, 2012 · No Comments

– Robert Light Democracy is not a “social condiment”…something you can slather on a society to make it taste better. Democracy is how we express the basic respect we feel for one another. Democracy is an “effect” not a “cause” – we have democracy because we respect each other’s inalienable rights. If you have a society […]

Why are there no Muslim “Thomas Jeffersons”

September 13th, 2012 · No Comments

– Robert Light Many people have puzzled as to why, with the advent of “The Arab Spring”, has there not appeared any equivalent to America’s founding fathers such as Thomas Jefferson, a bold, clear thinker who could verbalize, define and motivate his fellow citizens to rally around a cause that will bring the entire society […]

The Muslim definition of “humiliation”

September 12th, 2012 · No Comments

– Robert Light We hear the word “humiliation” spoken repeatedly from the adherents of Islam. Lately, we’ve been horrified by what transpired after a Koran was inadvertently burned by U.S. Armed Forces in Afghanistan…and then just today we see that the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and 3 others were murdered during riots spurred by the […]

The war on Truth

July 26th, 2011 · No Comments

Here it comes.
Barbaric as it was, the Norway nut who slaughtered innocents was indeed deranged in (at least) one significant dimension – that the “ends justify the means” – he was, like Timothy McVeigh, convinced of his mission and that “HOW” he undertook his battle didn’t matter. This led to a tragic end.

Post Goldstone

May 1st, 2011 · No Comments

– Robert Light Historians will most undoubtedly take note of Justice Goldstone’s  attempt, as he said, to… begin a new era of evenhandedness at the U.N. Human Rights Council, whose history of bias against Israel cannot be doubted. Throwing off the principle of “innocent until proven guilty”, Judge Goldstone ignored Israel’s storied history of going […]

J’Accuse: Who’s being “irrational” here?

October 22nd, 2010 · No Comments

– Robert Light There has been much “junk” spewed about what Juan Williams expressed on the Bill Oreilly’s show. The greatest “junk” is the concept that he was expressing “irrational thoughts” or is a “bigot“…with the implicit statement being made that “rational people” wouldn’t worry about Muslims on airplanes. I put forth that Juan Williams […]

Behind the phrase “disproportional response”

January 6th, 2009 · No Comments

About this time during any Israeli attempt to deal with the terrorist hordes which surround her, with the punctual precision of the precession of the earth about the sun bringing spring flowers, world leaders trot out the old tired indictment that Israel is guilty of using “disproportionate force”.

I must admit that when someone I know trots out the indictment of disproportionate force, my first impulse is to say something to the effect: “That’s the stupidest comment I’ve ever heard”.

Lately, however, I’ve started to actually listen to those who complain that Israel is using “disproportionate force”.

Dear Obama supporter – part 1

November 6th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Dear Obama supporter,

First off, I want to congratulate you on an excellently run campaign. Your candidate spoke eloquently and remained focused. Obama said many things, many of which I agreed wholeheartedly. While I can’t possibly believe in his financial plan, I couldn’t believe in McCain’s either – America is in a mess as a result of unwarranted consumption and financial overreaching – we will get out of this mess by hard work, saving and investing in the future. While I bristled at Bush’s advice to the American people after 9/11 of “[paraphrasing…] continue living life normally, don’t stop shopping”… I was pleased to hear both McCain’s and Obama’s message for people to come and “serve their country”.
